Mike Safley, a lifelong Oregonian, has been traveling to Peru since 1990. He first began his
journeys to South America on alpaca business, as he was among the first ranchers to
import alpacas to the United States. He founded Quechua Benefit in 1996 at the request
of his dear friend, Don Julio Barreda. He has returned over 100 times since. When he’s not working on Quechua Benefit projects, he enjoys reading, spending time with his family,
and drinking too much coffee.
